About Me

My name is Zhenya Bakin and some people call me /zi:/

I love teaching English and I try to make my classes interesting and unusual. I’m a goal-oriented person, which means that I set clear aims and do my best to achieve them. I like complete relaxation mixed with intensive work and absolutely prefer fun over boredom. You can read about my credo in teaching here.

My professional/academic career is diverse and patchy but anyways it’s all about education. I have I taught teenagers in a private Moscow school Moscow, spent a year teaching Russian at Rhodes College, USA (as a Fulbright scholar), earned CELTA (Cambridge certificate for English language teachers) and DELTA and have lived Olso, Norway where I studied English, linguistics and methodology of teaching. Now I am studying towards MA from Norwich Institute of Language Education (NILE).

I’ve taught different types of courses, including IELTS and TOEFL, and have seen at least several hundred students. My professional interests include motivation in the classroom and teaching with technology.

At the moment I am running Academic Writing Center at the Higher School of Economics.

In spare time I do some dancing (Lindy Hop or Contact Improvisation), yoga, play music with friends or travel around.

My future plans:

  • I’m looking for an opportunity to join a group of educators for running one or several research projects.
  • I want to try paragliding and kayaking
  • I’m willing to learn French.
